Over the past 30 years the rate of China's economic growth has been averaging 8% growth GDP (gross domestic product) per annum. Though China's GDP looks good on paper, GDP doesn't measure the gap between the rich and the poor, which is a big problem in China. Reason for China;s rapid economic development has been help through market liberalization. Economic reforms started in China in the 70's and the 80's. Their first stage was on collectivizing agricultural activities. The later stages was to liberalize some aspects of the country. Due to these reforms more independence was granted to the business enterprises that were once owned by the government. This led to a number of various types of privately held enterprises. China's economy grew 7.9 per cent in the second quarter of 2009. In the first quarter China registered a 6.1 per cent growth. The reason for such success during the second quarter, was built on the back of a $586 billion government stimulus package. A meeting held by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China set a number of guideline and task for the economy for the year for the year to come. Liu Shijin, vice president of the Development Research Centre of the State Council, forecast that the economy will grow 8.5 to 9.0 per cent this year
